- Change in Water Disinfectant - On May 7, 2007, the Green Valley SUD will be changing the disinfectant that is used from chlorine to chloramines. This change is intended to benefit our customers by reducing the levels of disinfection by-products (DBPs) in the water system, while still providing protection from waterborne disease. However, the change to chloramines can cause problems to persons dependent on dialysis machines. A condition known as hemolytic anemia can occur if the disinfectant is not completely removed from the water that is used for the dialysate. Consequently, the pretreatment scheme used for the dialysis units must include some means, such as a charcoal filter, for removing the chloramines prior to this date. Medical facilities should also determine if additional precautions are required for other medical equipment. In addition, chloraminated water may be toxic to fish. If you have a fish tank, please make sure that the chemicals or filters that you are using are designed for use in water that has been treated with chloramines. You may also need to change the type of filter that you use for the fish tank. Should you have any further questions regarding this information, please contact our office at (830) 914-2330.
- The Board of Directors meet every month, usually on the third Thursday. They meet at the GVSUD office at 529 South Center Street in Marion at 9:00 A.M. The meetings are open to the public and an agenda is posted on the office front window and at the courthouses in Guadalupe, Comal and Bexar counties.
Minutes of the Board meetings are available at the office after they have been approved by the Board. If any other news alerts become necessary, we will post them at this site as well as in the Seguin Gazette-Enterprise newspaper.
- Please Help Us! We want to encourage you to sign up for our bank draft system. Bank drafts allow your payments to be drafted from your checking or savings account no matter which bank you use. You can call Pam or Tina and they will be happy to send you the necessary bank draft form or you can visit the BANK DRAFT page to download and print it. Please make sure you read and follow the information sheet included with the bank draft download. When paying by bank draft, you still receive your Green Valley water bill so you will know the amount, before it is drafted. With over 7000 payments coming into the office each month, it would be nice to reduce the workload on Gailene, Elaine and Pam. The drafted payments save them time and effort.
