Green Valley Special Utility District (GVSUD) uses watering rules and restrictions to proactively manage the region's water resources. The rules and restrictions limit water use based on specific levels of the Edwards Aquifer.
Stage 1 begins when the 10-day rolling average of the aquifer level drops to 660 feet mean sea level at the monitored well. Watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler or soaker hose is allowed only twice a week BEFORE 10:00 a.m. or AFTER 8:00 p.m. on your designated watering day.
Stage 2 begins when the 10-day rolling average of the aquifer level drops to 650 feet mean sea level at the monitored well. Watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler or soaker hose is allowed only once a week BEFORE 10:00 a.m. or AFTER 8:00 p.m. on your designated watering day.
Stage 3 begins when the 10-day rolling average of the aquifer level drops to 640 feet mean sea level at the monitored well. Watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler or soaker hose is allowed only once every OTHER week BEFORE 10:00 a.m. or AFTER 8:00 p.m. on your designated watering day.
When drought restrictions are in effect, there may be occasional situations where watering rules cannot be reasonably followed. In these circumstances, a variance may be requested. Variance requests are carefully reviewed and not all requests are granted.
